In my quarter two round up post (which you can read here) I briefly touched on a VERY exciting subject – The husband and I have booked a ten night stay in MEXICO!
Yep, that’s right, on April 2nd 2019 Jody and I will be heading to Manchester airport, packed and ready to fly to Cancun airport – Although we are actually staying just outside of Playa Del Carmen in Playacar.
As April 7th is Jody’s thirtieth we knew that our big holiday would be something to commemorate that. Originally we were planning on going on a little Vietnamese adventure but as much as we would love to explore Vietnam, we came to the conclusion that actually, we wanted something super luxurious – No jumping from place to place, no budget accommodation and certainly no backpacks.
That’s when we started talking about Mexico.
Hot weather, white sandy beaches, ancient ruins, snorkelling….
Everything we wanted in a holiday.
Once we had decided that Mexico was 100% our next destination, Jody went into a local travel agents (he cleans their windows) to get a list of hotels/dates/prices, before we whittled said list down. We looked on the hotel websites, looked at traveller reviews and analysed our needs alongside what the hotel could offer us. Once we found the perfect one for us, we paid a deposit and wham, bam, thank you mam, off we go to Mexico.
Despite travelling extensively, this will only be my second time staying in an all inclusive hotel. My first experience wasn’t great (dodgy food, warm coke out of a bottle, a million separate expenses that you don’t plan for) so it put me off a little bit but this time around I’m a lot more confident. We really did our research with this one and the hotel we chose – the RIU Yucatan – offers various cuisines (steak, Asian, Mexican) , an American breakfast, snacks 24 hours a day AND A LIQUOR DISPENSER IN THE BEDROOM. I know, omg.
On top of some good looking dining options, the hotel also has a great looking beach (and reviews back this up), howler monkeys living on site and *free* kayaking and snorkelling equipment – Jody and I love going out to the water so this really peaked our interest.
But, we won’t just be staying in the hotel (obviously).
I’m dying to check out Tulum and snorkel with turtles in Akumel, Jody wants to visit a nearby cenote and adventure park and we think it would be rude not to go to Chichen Itza, a wonder of the world, whilst we were in the area.
By the time April rolls around we won’t have been on holiday for 22 months (Prague doesn’t count cos it was cold and shit) so we are pretty bloody excited to say the least.
Roll on April 2nd!
