One thing I really wanted to do this year was bring back my movie posts so I’m kicking things off with a list of movies being released in 2018 that I am dying to see in 2018.
Den of Thieves
A gritty crime saga which follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.
This wasn’t on my radar at all until I saw the advert when I went to see Jumanhi and now it is firmly on the list – Gerard Butler, baby Ice Cube, Fifty Cent and Pornstache from OITNB…Sounds good to me. I love a good crime drama and this one looks like it will be pretty intense.
Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.
Margot Robbie’s entertainment company ‘Lucky Chap’ sounds like it has some pretty cool movies and tv shows in motion and I *think* I, Tonya is one of the first to be put out by them. Aswell as producing the movie, Robbie stars as the title character, a figure skater who found herself in a lot of bother when her competitor was injured by a hitman that her husband hired. It looks like a really strong performance from Robbie and with Alison Janney also starring, I have no doubts that I will probably love it.
Isle of Dogs
Set in Japan, Isle of Dogs follows a boy’s odyssey in search of his dog.
Isle of Dogs is set in a futuristic dystopian Japan where dogs are quarantined due to some kind of flu. A young boy comes across their island in search of his much loved pooch and a rag tag group of dogs decide to help him on his hunt. Wes Anderson? Tick. Stop motion animation? Tick. DOGS?!?! TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK. I just really love dogs so obviously I will be first in line to see this at the cinema.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Han Solo and Chewbacca’s adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian.
I like Star Wars, I like Han Solo and Chewie and Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke, mother of dragons are in it. Rogue One was okay but I didn’t feel particularly attached to any of the characters (where as in Solo we know most of them already) so hopefully this one will capture my attention more.
Debbie Ocean gathers a crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala.
Sandy B, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter are three of my favourite actresses so when you throw in Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, Awkwafina and Rihanna you have a pretty awesome looking cast (Just a shame about James Corden – Is anyone else sick of the site of him and his smug face?). I really enjoyed Ocean’s 11 (although I’ve still not seen the end cos I keep falling asleep) but I have a feeling this one will be that little bit better #GirlPower. P.s I want Cate Blanchetts characters hair, wardrobe and sass.
Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is left to care for Jack-Jack while Helen (Elastigirl) is out saving the world.
Yes another kids film and yes another Disney one. The Incredibles is one of the most underrated Disney/Pixar movies there is (The scene between Frozone and his wife is ICONIC) and I’m so glad that they’ve decided to make a sequel after 14 years. The teaser trailer looked promising so we shall see what the full ength has to offer!
Ant Man and the Wasp
As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.
I really enjoyed the first Ant Man (and have a massive older man crush on Paul Rudd) so I’m looking forward to the unlikely superheroes next outing. I have no idea what it’s gunna be about but I’m really hoping that Michael Pena makes a return cos I also love him too. Avengers is cool and all but I got bored half way through the last one – Ant Man is where its at for me 2018 Marvel-wise.
Fantastic Beasts: The crimes of Grindelwald
The second installment of the ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ series which follows the adventures of Newt Scamander.
Aww man I wish I could say I was going to refuse to watch this due to it’s recasting of Johnny Depp (and Jk Rowling and David Yates shameful comments regarding the matter) but the truth is I can’t. I am a fully paid up member of the HP universe fan club and the first movie was my favourite movie of 2016 – I just wish they had kept Colin Farrell on as Grindelwald instead (he’s such a good actor – have you seen him in Saving Mr Banks?!?! – aswell as being a total mega babe).
Ralph breaks the internet: Wreck It Ralph 2
6 years after the events of “Wreck-It Ralph”, Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure.
The original Wreck It Ralph was a lot of fun but I find that sequels to movies like that can go one of two ways – It will either be terrible (hello Cars 2) or it will be bloody awesome (hello Toy Story 2 and 3). Hopefully it’s the latter rather than the former.
An immigrant rises to the top of the criminal underworld in the United States.
The 1983 movie starring Al Pacino is one of my all time favourite films and I’m looking forward to seeing this retelling of the story – especially as it stars Diego Luna. People get upset over remakes but as this is a remake of a remake (the original was created in 1932) so the naysayers can’t get too upset about it. They just need to make sure they cast a leading lady who can be as sassy and fabulous as Michelle Pfeiffer was!
