August seemed to go on forever didn’t it? I saw people tweeting that it felt like August the 33rd and I couldn’t agree more with that sentiment. It was a pretty boring month with very little going on but there are still a couple of highlights that I wanted to tell you about.
Watching: The Game of Thrones finale. What an epic final scene at Winterfell! Season seven has been all kinds of awesome and I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all ties up at the end (although if the rumours are true and time travel is involved I will probably scream).
Doing: Not a right lot to be honest. As I explained in the starting paragraph it’s been a fairly boring and uneventful month…But sometimes you need months with no plans right?
Buying: My new coffee table! It’s the biggest purchase I’ve made in a while and I’m still in love with it. It really finishes off my living room and I adore the colour.
Attending: My first proper wedding. Sure I went to a wedding as kid but as an adult I’ve only ever been to my parents (which was SUPER low key) and my own. Anyway over bank holiday weekend friends of ours got married in a lavish ceremony and it was an awesome day full of laughter, happiness and extremely drunk singing. Oh and a free bar.
Joining: The gym – I know, me, Mrs Lazybones. After years of eating what I want and doing hardly any exercise my metabolism is finally starting to slow down so I figured it was time to join the gym. I joined last Thursday and tbh, I haven’t beeen yet due to illness but I’m definitely going in the morning so watch this space.
Eating: a hell of a lot better than I was at the beginning of the month. As mentioned above, joining the gym has spurred me into action when it comes to changing my diet. There’s a lot more fruit, veg and water involved now and I’m feeling really good for it so here’s hoping it lasts.
Thinking about: a change. I’ve been feeling really frustrated in certain areas of my life for some time now (I’m not going into it cos you never know who might be reading) and I think it’s time that I did something about it. I think there are going to be some changes over the next few months so we shall see what happens.
Feeling: really proud of my cousin. He did great in his A Levels and he got in to his first choice uni to do the course he really wanted to do – Biology no less! He’s ever so clever and he’s definitely gunna go on to do great things.
Reading: ‘The Dry’ by Jane Harper and ‘How to Stop Time’ by Matt Haig. The Dry is about a murder investigation in rural Australia whilst HTST is about a man who ages very very slowly – Very different books but I enjoyed both.
Listening to: The Made Online and What She Said podcasts. Both talk to women who are heavily involved with the internet – bloggers, social media managers or business owners for example – and both are super inspiring. Listening to the guests talk about their experiences has given me a kick up the arse when it comes to my career, my blog and where I want to be so I highly recommend checking ’em out.
Exploring: Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough. I only live about 15 minutes away from Knaresborough and not once in my 25 years have I been to Mother Shipton’s. TBH it’s nout special (in my opinion anyways) but it was nice to get out and explore somewhere I’d never been before.
Planning: Christmas! Sorry but I’m a planner what can I say. I’ve already started thinking about gifts for my loved ones and what we are going to be doing for dinner. Usually we have Christmas dinner at my Nannies but as we have our own place this year we’re gunna have dinner just the two of us then see family after. It’ll be different but I’m looking forward to it.
Trying: to persuade husband that we need to book another holiday. It’s not enough that we have Berlin, Prague, Scotland and the Norfolk Broads in the diary, oh no, I need more. I’m not even asking to book anything else for 2018, I just want to book a holiday for Jody’s 30th in 2019.
Goals for September
Go to the gym and get into a routine
Even though I haven’t been yet I’m feeling really good about going to the gym. I’ve found a routine online that I used to do (and loved), my diet has improved so it won’t feel like I’m not progressing and I have a motivation that I’ve never had before.
Read three new to me books
My TBR pile currently consists of ‘The Hate U Give’, ‘The Keeper of Lost Things’ and ‘The Couple Next Door’, all of which are new reads. I’ve heard good things about all of them and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in over the next month.
Try not to buy any clothes or beauty products.
As much as I love clothes and beauty products I do not need anymore – Seriously, I’m runnng out of storage for my make up. I’ve decided to put myself on a ban for September…Nothing but essentials (i.e tights, liquid eyeliner, dry shampoo). I’ll probably have cracked by the time Sunday night rolls around but I’m gunna try and be a bit more mindful of what I’m spending my money on.
And that was August! Have a lovely, lovely weekend and I’ll be back on Monday morning with a new post!
