Life Lately: A BIG change of plan

Primark Pokemon Pjs

I didn’t plan on making these a regular thing but as it turns out I like nattering away with no set direction or point that I have to get to so hello and welcome to a second life lately post…

Despite banging on about it for the last 12 months I’m no longer saving for a mortgage  DUN DUN DUNNNN

(Well I kind of am but I’ll get to that later).

I’ve written posts on how to save, how to survive living with parents and I even included buying a house in my 2017 goals – Having enough money for a mortgage deposit has been my one and only aim for the past year and then POOF out of nowhere, I’ve changed my mind.

You see, the boyf and I have been getting at each other a lot lately. We’ve been snappy, argumentative and not gunna lie, a little bit miserable. Not enough to split over mind but enough to notice and realise that something isn’t right. We sat down and had a chat about it and came to the conclusion that the reason behind the bickering was our living situation.

Don’t get me wrong Jody’s parents are lovely and they can’t do enough for us but living in someone else’s house is hard ESPECIALLY when it’s your boyfriend’s parents. Living on top of each other in one room just wasn’t working for us anymore so we decided that maybe it was time to put the mortgage dream to one side for a while.

So we have decided to rent.

We don’t do things by halves so within a week of deciding that we were going to move out and rent we saw a propertly, fell in love with it, sorted all the forms, handed over a large sum of money and bought a sofa. PHEW!

The house that we will be moving into is absolutely gorgeous and has all the fittings we need. it’s only small but the rent is super cheap and the house has two parking spaces round the back which is a must for us.

We’ve had loads of fun buying new stuff for it (blog post to come) and I can’t wait to move in on the 20th of March and make it ours.

But what about the mortgage?

The good thing about having a mortgage dream for a year means that we have a nice little savings pot sat to one side that we can use to kit out our new pad. I don’t plan on using all of it because that would be madness so that means I still have a nice little stepping stone to carry on saving from.

Obviously I won’t be putting as much money away each month as I am now because hello bills and Vegas and NYC but I’ll definitely still be putting something away. Renting means I won’t have a mortgage anytime soon but with some careful budgeting I’ll still be able to carry on saving and fingers crossed, I might have my own house by the time I’m 30.

I’m a bit gutted that I’ll no longer have my very own house in a year’s time but I feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I no longer have to be super strict with my wage, I’m going to be living with my boyfriend in a home we can call our own and I’m the happiest I’ve been in ages.

And if I’m gunna be honest being happy is my number one priority in life these days.

Much love.

We have been through some similar issues in a different setting. MY partner and I were living in one room of a flatshare because we were living on one fairly low graduate salary and it almost broke us. We made moving a priority, even though it cost us more and we had to make sacrifices, but it was worth it for the havoc the close quarters living that was getting to us. 5 years later, we are making similar choices and sacrifices, we're also working hard towards a house but because I work away a lot and we both have jobs that go through phases of intense pressure, we decided that taking longer to save a deposit was something we could live with, holidays together where we recharge ourselves were something we couldn't. Just because you can do something, doesn't always mean you should not all ways of saving work for everyone- good for you guys making the choice and deciding on what's right for you.

Thank you so much for your comment! Yah, as great as having my own house would be, being happy and making memories is definitely going to come first x

Congratulations on the house, I can't wait to see pics of it and how you make it your own. Especially because I rent too and have cream walls everywhere that i've scared of putting anything on!
