Review: Billy Bobs Ice Cream Parlour, Skipton
45 minutes from where I live is Billy Bobs , a 50’s style diner and ice cream parlour. For ages Jody and I have talked about going but for some reason haven’t got round to it so on our quest to find the best burgers in the UK, we made a reservation and made the journey to Bolton Abbey, where the farm/diner is located.
First of all, if you don’t like kids this place isn’t for you. Billy Bobs has a large play area and as it’s quite budget friendly, a lot of families opt to go there for dinner. I’d also highly recommend booking a table before you go to ensure you aren’t disappointed if you make the journey and it turns out to be fully booked up (especially on weekends and in the school holidays).
When you arrive you take your seat, peruse the menu and then you have to go up to a till to place your order. Waiters/Waitresses will bring your food out for you and then you are ready and able to tuck in!
The interior is exactly what you would expect from a 50’s diner: Pastel colours, neon signs, American registration plates and lot’s of old school posters and fonts. There’s heaps of space, mainly in the form of booths and milk bar style stools and tables. Oh and there’s a jukebox!
My favourite part of the décor though was definitely the yellow school bus, pictured above. I was absolutely devastated when I saw it and realised we weren’t going to be sat in there. It’s super quirky and add’s a bit of fun to your experience.
Jody opted for the Kansas City Sticky Ribs (£7.85). The sauce was really thick and tangy – maybe a bit too tangy though – and the ribs fell off the bone…Just the way we like ’em.
Billy Bobs is definitely somewhere we would go again. The décor is right up my street, it’s fairly cheap (we spent £30 in total with a coke, a chocolate milkshake and fries) and the food is pretty good. I’m dribbling just thinking about those dam pancakes.
Have you been to Billy Bobs? Or do you have a 50’s style American diner in your area?
