The Christmas Tag

christmas in scrabble letters

Who doesn't love Christmas? Seriously?
It's easily my favourite time of year, everyone is so happy and upbeat!
As it's the first of December I thought this tag would be a perfect way to get into the Crimbo spirit!

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
Quite literally the hardest question ever! I love, love, love Elf, it reminds me of my mum and sister because we always used to watch it together. I love the first two Home Alone's and Love Actually aswell. Oh and the Grinch..There's a few faves.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
I normally get a peek in my stocking Christmas Eve and open my presents in the morning. Jody has to physically restrain me from opening any on Christmas Eve if I am going to be honest with myself.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
When we were little my Dad used to always go downstairs to put the heating on and make sure 'Santa had been'. My brother is 5 years older than me and he used to have the loft room and he used to swear that he'd heard Santa and his reindeer on the roof. I always liked helping mum decorate the tree aswell, even if she did change it all once we had gone to bed!
4. favourite festive food?
Pigs In Blankets every single time. And my Nannie's gravy - it's so thick and scrummy.
5. Favourite Christmas gift ?
When I was two my Grandparents got me a Simba stuffed toy ( I was OBSESSED with The Lion King) and I was made up - he is coming to Australia with me even if it means I can't take some clothes.
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
I love the smell of Cinnamon, Christmas Trees and the smell of the Christmas Decoration Box (weird I know but it reminds me of being a kid!)
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
I usually do the rounds - We go and see all my grandparents, Jodys Grandparents, both sets of Parents and then we usually go back to my nannie's for some grub and some drinks.

8. What tops your tree?
As we live with Jodys parents we don't really do the tree decorating but I like stars and funky modern angels.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
To be honest, I was really lucky and I'm pretty sure me and my sister ALWAYS got what we wanted (thanks mum and dad!). My mum still hurts from never getting a Mr Frosty though.

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
I love everything about it. I love the atmosphere, I love the colours, the lights and the decorations. I like the shopping and the music and the food. I love choosing and giving presents. Most of all I love seeing all my family :)

18 signs you're getting older.

1. Kids. People are having kids because they want them, What?

2. When someone cancels on you, you are secretly relieved because you can binge watch Breaking Bad.
3. You can go out for a couple of drinks and actually go home after a couple of drinks.
4. Watching The X Factor and ordering a takeaway is your idea of a wild night in.
5. You don't understand the fashion in Topshop or River Island anymore.
6. And another thing Topshop..DJ's in shops? Eh??? (Contributed by Jody)
7. You find yourself looking at the calories in food..If you haven't started doing this yet then don't. It will haunt you.
8. Your friend's go out for meals for their birthdays instead of having a RAGING piss up in the pub.
9. Radio 2 is your radio channel of choice. Radio 1 makes your head hurt.
10. You just can't justify a £100 dress anymore. That's a big food shop right there.
11. No longer can you go out 3 nights in a row..Or 2...Or even 1....
12. Nor can you stay out partying until the birds wake up....
14. Going into a nightclub is like going into a creche. Drunk 18 year olds know what I'm saying? *shudders*
15. To be honest anyone under 18 does your head in. Was I that annoying?
16. It makes you sad to see Fireman Sam and Postman Pat in all their CGI glory. What happened to kid's TV anyway?
17. You now understand why your parents shouted at you all the time and why they
were always so stressed. Working 37.5 hours a week is hard.
18. 'I'm skint' is a regular phrase in your vocab.
I know, I know..At 25 I am not considered OLD - But the point I'm trying to make is that I can no longer spend all my wage on Smirnoff or in Topshop.
Sad Times.

14 things I've learned from being in a LT relationship

jody and I at leeds fest

These two complete idiots would be myself (Hi) and Jody. It was taken at Leeds Fest 2014 and it sums us up pretty well. We don't take ourselves to seriously and we nearly always have fun. We are pretty much BFF's.

In March 2015 we will have been together 5 years and in that time we have rented one house, been on 2 holidays, 3 mini breaks, been to 6 festivals and had a lot of arguments and a million more laughs.

Soooooo what have I learned from being in a long term relationship of five years?

1. Sex is a weapon on both sides.
2. Wrestling is a perfectly acceptable way of resolving an disagreement.
3. Shaving gets put on the back burner.
4. I have become a master of compromise
5. And I could also become a Buddhist with the amount of patience I now have
6. He has learned to love GBBO, I have *sobs* learned to love football.
7. Don't watch something you both love without the other - it should be a crime punishable by tickling. Just don't do it.
8. A man's 'I'll be home in 5' is a woman's 'I'll be ready in 5'.
9. No matter how long you've been together, sharing food is hard. (Think Joey in Friends)
10. You will always argue/debate over who is going to the door/the shop/the kitchen. Always.
11. You won't always agree on everything, but that's okay.
12. Holding conversations whilst one of you is in the Bathroom will become the norm.
13. Noone will get your couple banter and noone will make you laugh as much as your idiot does.
14. You slowly become Partners In Crime.

The JL Christmas Advert Countdown

When it comes to the annual Christmas adverts, for me there is only one winner - John Lewis.
Every year they pull something new and fun - and cute- out of the bag and I look forward to it every year.

With the John Lewis ad's, there are two types of people:
The 'Awwww I want a penguin/hare/real life snowman' people or the 'What a load of old shit' people. I fall into the 'Awww' category whilst Jody falls into the 'Shit' category. (I even featured the penguin ad on my Happiness is post here)

For me personally the ad's give me that warm, fuzzy, festive feeling and for ten minutes they genuinely make me super happy and make me feel good about the world. For a few moments you forget about all the bad and you are completely suckered into the character's show of love..They make you want to go out and give all your family a big hug.

As a person with a heart made of stone (Seriously..Ask my dad/bf/friends) the fact that an advert can make me feel is a big deal...Okay, in reality they're made to sell, sell, sell but something that makes you feel THAT happy can't be a bad thing really can it?

As the adverts bring me so much joy, today I bring to you my JL Christmas Ad Countdown!
John Lewis have been spreading the Christmas joy since 2007 but as I have a Dory style memory I can only remember from 2010, so please forgive me!

trying to wrap presents

No 5. 2010's 'A Tribute to Givers'.

Ellie Goulding's cover of the classic 'Your Song' accompanied this ad which revolved around various people sneaking around trying to make Crimbo extra special. As I don't really remember the ad, except for the cracking song, I had to place it at 5 as it obviously wasn't that memorable!

the nativity

No 4. 2011's 'The Long Wait'.

Slow Moving Millie covered The Smiths for this super cute ad featuring a super cute little dude who just can't wait to give his mum her pressie. It moved me a tiny bit but as a person with no maternal instincts, the wee lad didn't tug on the heartstrings as much as a penguin would.

penguin eating fish fingers

Leading me to No.3, this year's effort 'Monty the Penguin'.

I love penguin's, like really, really love them so when I saw this year's Ad I melted. Now all I want for Christmas is a pet penguin (Jody if you read this, a cuddly one will suffice). The only reason this is at number three is because of Tom Odell's cover of  The Beatle's 'Real Love' - I just think it's a bit poo.

the bear and the hare

At No.2 2013's 'The Bear and the Hare'.

A bear who misses the festive season every year is given an alarm clock by his hare buddy so he can finally see Christmas. The look on the bear's face when he see's the tree for the first time get's me every bloody time. The song 'Somewhere only we Know' is pretty good too (Originally by Keane, covered by Lily Allen).

the snowman

And finally at No,1 - The Journey
The snowman braves all sorts of crap to go get his snow girlfriend a hat, scarf and gloves - He returns triumphant and wins her heart..Who wouldn't be warmed up by this chilly love story?
With a stunning soundtrack by Gabriella Aplin, (A cover of 'The Power of Love' by Frankie goes to Hollywood), The Journey is definitely my favourite. I think everyone in the UK felt a bit sad when they went past sad, half melted snowmen that year.

My Alphabet Scarf

alder hey alphabet scarf

The temperature's dropping the night's are getting darker and Christmas is starting to rear it's head.
I LOVE winter woolies and every year I tend to get a new hat or scarf. This year I saw am article on the Metro website (here) about these alphabet scarves.
Advocated by Jessie J, Keith Lemon and Jimmy Carr, these beauties are from Matalan and come in a variety of colours and (of course) all 26 lettets of the alphabet.
And the best part?
At £10 some may fine these pricy compared to scarves from Primark BUT the whole £10 goes to the Alder Hey Children' Charity. You can also buy a children's size for £5 (Bargain!)
Alder Hey and Matalan are working together to raise money to provide the lastest in technology, equipment and facilities so children can be given the best possible healthcare available.
The scarves are super long and snuggly and they are beautifully made. I personally think they would make a wonderful christmas gift and you can sleep easy knowing you have done a small thing that could make a big difference.
Find the scarves here.
Let me know if you decide to buy one!
